I was at home when a relative knocked on the door.
He had a cardboard box tucked in his arms, from which came faint whimpers.
When I lifted the lid, a little black fluff ball rolled out, wagging its thin tail.
He said it was a one-month-old puppy, its whole body as shiny black as a moving inkstone.
It timidly walked to a corner, lay down there, and trembled as it turned around.
I found an old small cardboard box to make a nest for it. It curled up into a ball, eyes half-closed.
During dinner, I secretly fed it some meat. Its tongue licking my palm made it feel warm.
At night, I heard it whimper softly, as if looking for its mother.
When the morning light streamed in, it was napping on my shoe.
This little black ball is going to take root in my home.
